How often have you ventured into a YAK shaving expedition?

Updated: Nov 11, 2021

A YAK shaving expedition a loop that one gets tangled in when venturing to get some work done.

So what exactly is a YAK shaving expedition?

To elaborate on the definition, Yak Shaving is the last step of a series of steps that occurs when you find something you need to do. To understand better, consider this scenario.

Scenario

You need to fix some lights in the house

The work loop you go through:

"You found out that you lost one of the screwdrivers & will have to go to a hardware shop to get a new one"

"Now the hardware store is quite far from your house and getting there in a cab will be costly"

"So you decide to go in the public transport, but you don't have a chip card"

"You decide to borrow it from your friend"

"But your friend won't give you his chip card until you return his fluffy pillow that you borrowed last week"

“And you haven’t returned it because some of the stuffing fell out & you need to get some yak hair to re stuff it”

And the next thing you know, you’re at the zoo, shaving a yak, all so you can fix some lights in your house. You're doing some stupid, fiddly little task that bears no obvious relationship to what you're supposed to be working on!

Relatable? We know!

We all have our version of what perfect looks like and we all want to do things perfectly and sometimes while doing so we get involved in these series of steps which take us away from the immediate task and we invest our time in activities that weren’t planned.

So, what should you do?

We at Brand360 believe that doing it well Now is much better than doing it perfectly Later. Time is of the essence.

Save it
